We are currently seeking an experienced, innovative and customer-focused Senior Product Development Manager to join the Apparel team at The Bradford Group. The Senior Product Development Manager will manage multiple accessory subcategories and a portfolio of both licensed and non-licensed affinities. This individual will drive product design, obtain production approvals, conduct regular intensive analysis as related to accessories (bags, shoes, sets, wallets, etc.), and manage projects working with our Design and Marketing teams to build a world-class collectible Accessories product line. Responsibilities:


  • Lead ideation sessions with team members to generate new product series concepts.
  • Develop and present new innovative concepts for approval by senior management. This includes the concept, competitive and related industries, and company research (prior test/rollout results), mockup/sketches, and data on trends, and preliminary costs/margin estimates.
  • Identify new affinities, potential artists and licensed brands for the apparel and accessories market.        
  • Develop strong working relationships with freelance artists and licensors to meet business objectives - determine and work with appropriate artists and art style to commission and direct sketches, and final artwork. Work with licensing and art acquisition regarding artist selection, portfolios, and contracts.
  • Provide detailed and precise written/verbal critiques at various stages throughout development. Manage development costs and speculative art accounts.
  • Identify and implement ways to improve cost-effective processes to bring product to market, such as added product enhancements, collateral literature and packaging to increase perceived value, product innovation, and client conversion.
  • Work with Design team, Production team, Sourcing team, and outside vendors, to develop final prototypes at the appropriate margin guidelines.
  • Create first samples from concept sketches with the appropriate vendor, having a solid understanding of fabrics, embellishment processes, and printing.
  • Develop accessory business ideas with Creative Director to quantify the opportunities and requirements for new features and enhancements.
  • Build strong internal relationships with Design, Marketing and Sourcing teams.
Required Skills:  
  • BA or BFA degree in Fine/Studio Arts, Fashion, Illustration, Product Design, or an art-related field.
  • 5-7 years experience in product development/product design, preferably in the textile/apparel industry.
  • Direct marketing experience (catalog environment) and/or marketing and manufacturing knowledge of the textiles/apparel industry.
  • Exposure to working with different types of fabric and other textile materials.
  • Ability to manage projects from conception to product stage; ability to manage costs and budgets.
  • MAC/PC skills including MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator and databases.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Proven analytical skills and highly comfortable with graphic design on a Mac platform.
  • Ability to think both analytically and creatively.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design, present ideas at weekly team meeting with upper management, and multi-task.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to navigate a complex and unstructured cross-functional environment.
